Find Your Footing

Passage begins with a series of raised timber footholds that stretch across the playground toward the tower.

Each step asks children to judge the distance, place their feet carefully and transfer their weight before moving forward. Metal handholds on the upright timber poles provide support along the way, but children must still find their own rhythm and decide how to approach each crossing.

As the route continues, the striding stilts lead to a narrow timber crossing. A support rope helps children steady themselves as they make the final passage toward the elevated deck. The combination creates a continuous balance experience that changes as children move closer to the tower.

Some children may take each step slowly and deliberately. Others may work toward moving through the route with a smoother rhythm. Repeated attempts give children opportunities to refine their movements, try a different approach and experience the satisfaction of completing a challenge that once required more concentration.

The vertical climber offers a shorter and more direct way to the platform. Its ladder-style ascent provides a different coordination challenge as children climb rung by rung and use the handrails to transition onto the deck.

At the top, children can pause, look out across the playground and decide how they want to return. The slide offers a long glide back to the ground, while the slide pole creates a quicker and more adventurous descent.

The result is a simple but engaging cycle: balance, climb, arrive, choose a way down and return to begin the passage again.

Passage has the character of a small woodland lookout reached by a trail of stepping posts. The timber tower creates a clear destination, while the striding stilts extend the play naturally across the site and make the approach part of the visual design.

Sustainably sourced laminated timber gives Passage its warmth, texture and natural appearance. Carefully selected color on the slide, handrails and tower details adds energy and visual interest for children without overpowering the wood. The result feels playful and inviting while blending comfortably into parks, schoolyards and natural landscapes.

The open arrangement preserves sightlines through and around the playground, allowing the surrounding trees, planting and scenery to remain visible. An optional timber roof strengthens the feeling of a sheltered woodland lookout, while the roofless version creates a lighter and more open appearance.

Paint-free construction allows the natural grain and texture of the timber to remain visible while reducing ongoing maintenance. A 20-year warranty backs the laminated timber poles.
